About our firewood
Hard wood fire wood
Hardwoods burn longer than soft woods and work better for overnight heating. They will usually have coals left over in the morning so you can quickly restart your fire.
Hardwood fire wood is pre-split 100% hard wood, fully seasoned and ready to burn in handy (m3) bulk bags.
Soft wood fire wood
Hot burning, an ideal accompaniment to slower burning hardwood logs. Perfect for getting a fire hot quickly on cold winter evenings. Best in a wood burner and not recommended for open fires.
Kiln-dried hard wood
Our wood-fired boiler produces forced hot air which we use to dry our already-seasoned hard wood logs. This reduces moisture content even further for improved combustion.
Kiln-dried fire wood is the highest quality firewood available. It is easy to light and burns hotter and cleaner than other firewood.
Sustainability statement
How Far Does Your Firewood Travel?
Have you ever considered the journey your firewood takes to reach your hearth? At Lord of the Trees, our firewood is not only 100% locally and sustainably sourced, but it’s also crafted with care to be as kind to the planet as it is to your home.
Unlike many suppliers who import wood from as far as Latvia or Lithuania, our firewood travels an average of just 30 miles—from tree to your fire. That’s because it’s a byproduct of essential local tree care, harvested responsibly, and in line with strict council guidelines on replanting. This way, we contribute to keeping our planet breathing while keeping your home cozy.
What makes our firewood extra special? 90% of our logs are split the traditional way—with a hand ax. While this means no identical, cookie-cutter shapes, it significantly reduces the need for diesel-guzzling wood processors. The mix of woods we provide—like Oak, Ash, Chestnut, Sycamore, and Birch—delivers better heat efficiency and longer-lasting fires compared to imported wood, which often burns quickly due to its uniformity.
But that’s not all. We’re thrilled to introduce our kiln-dried logs, produced using an ultra-efficient, eco-friendly kiln. This innovative kiln is powered by the unsplitable or unsuitable wood left over from our local tree work, ensuring nothing goes to waste. Designed with efficiency in mind, it’s one-of-a-kind and allows us to produce kiln-dried logs at a highly competitive price.
Having personally put these logs to the test in our home for both cooking and heating, I can honestly say they’re a step above anything we’ve tried before. The results have been outstanding—better heat, cleaner burns, and an all-around cozier experience.
By choosing local, sustainable firewood, you’re opting for an eco-friendly way to heat your home while supporting practices that nurture the environment. So, why not keep it cozy, keep it conscious, and keep it local?
Burning fire wood in Edinburgh
Edinburgh is a Smoke Control Area but appropriate fuels can be burned provided certain conditions are met.
From the Edinburgh Council Website “Some solid fuel stoves, ovens and boilers have been approved for use in smoke control areas. These appliances are exempt from the provisions of the Clean Air Act 1993 if they are installed and used properly.”
One of the most important things to consider when burning wood is its moisture content. Wood with a high moisture content burns poorly and produces a lot of smoke.
